Biography
Lauraine Mercy Ewurama Darkwah is Lawyer and a Member of the Ghana Bar Association. She works as an Associate at Ghartey and Ghartey (Gyate Chambers) where her areas of expertise are: Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR), Civil and Criminal Litigation, Company and Corporate Law, International Business Law, International Finance Law and Labor Law. She is also tasked with running the firm’s periodic internship programmes. Her interest in ADR has led her to write a number of articles on the subject area. Two of such articles, An Exposé on Alternative Dispute Resolution – The Ghana Arbitration Centre in Focus, Business and Financial Times; [February 3 2011]: page 12 and An Exposé on Alternative Dispute Resolution - The intricacies of court-connected ADR, Business and Financial Times; [April 25 2022]: page 9, have been published. She continues to participate in ADR seminars and programmes to share her knowledge and acquire more knowledge on the subject area. She is currently an Assistant editor of the African Journal of International Arbitration where she is tasked with calling for papers, reviewing manuscripts, ensuring the publication of select articles. She was recently appointed as an ambassador for the Arbitration Lunch Match in Accra. She obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana, in 2015 and proceeded to undertake her Professional Law Course at the Ghana School of Law. She holds an LLM in International Business from Osgoode Hall Law School – York University, Canada. She is currently the Legal Advisor to the 2011 year group of the Wesley Girls High School Old Girls’ Association; a role she has played for the past five years. She is also on the Country Leadership Team of Adonai Partners - a non-governmental missionary agency. She is an affable team player with a great sense of duty. When tasked to organize meetings, programmes or social gathers, she gets the job done with finesse and ease. She has a drive to learn, acquire more knowledge and accomplish set tasks. Her hobbies are public speaking, reading, writing, beading, listening to music and singing.
