Biography
Dr. Pie Habimana is a distinguished Kigali-based corporate lawyer and governance strategist with over 16 years of high-level experience spanning academia, international arbitration, and corporate leadership. A Fellow and Faculty member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), he is on the panel of arbitrators and adjudicators of KIAC and he is regularly engaged in international commercial dispute resolution as expert, arbitrator, and counsel. Dr. Pie was called to the Bar in 2011 and he is a founding partner of Amilex Chambers, and serves as Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Rwanda, and the Institute of Legal Practice and Development. Dr. Pie has a proven track record of boardroom leadership with a strong footprint across multiple sectors. He is Executive Chairman of PAI Ltd–an investment holding company, and serves as Non-Executive Director at Bank of Kigali Plc–Rwanda’s largest financial institution–where he chairs the Board Nominations and Remunerations Committee. He is also the Chairman of Multisector Investment Group Plc, and sits on the boards of MM&RJD Co. Ltd and 1000 Hills Ltd. His previous board appointments include Cogebanque Plc, the Rwanda Bar Association, East Africa Law Society (Vice-President), and Printerset Ltd. Dr. Pie holds a PhD in International Tax Law from Leiden University and his pioneering dissertation was published by the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD), making history as the first sub-Saharan African to feature in the IBFD’s prestigious doctoral series. He also holds an LLM (cum laude) in Business Law, a LLB (cum laude), and several professional diplomas and certificates. He is the author of two books and 17 scholarly articles, and speaks English, French, and Kinyarwanda (native).
