NCIA The Year in 2019! 28 February 2019
The year 2018 was an exciting year which included the 1st ADR National Conference, 1st MOOT Competition, the launch of the China Africa Joint Arbitration Centre and administration of newly registered cases and witnessing the issuance of the awards. The year ahead holds a lot in store for NCIA in its pivotal and facilitative role as an arbitral institution. Introducing the 1st Regional Investment Moot Competition! 1ST REGIONAL INVESTMENT MOOT COMPETITION Following the successful MOOT Competition held in Nairobi in 2018, plans are underway to hold the 1st Regional Investment MOOT Competition! This will bring together Law Faculties from Universities in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda who will put forward their best foot for the much sought after NCIA MOOT CUP! The Moot problem is developed in the context of an investor-state arbitration. While investor-state arbitration remains a relatively new area of international law, the number of cases commenced under international investment agreements (IIAs) has grown exponentially. To this end, the Centre is taking a lead role in building capacity for upcoming ADR practitioners on emerging areas in international law. The Moot is governed by the ICSID Convention and the ICSID Additional Facility Rules. The respective Country Preliminary Rounds are scheduled to held as follows; Rwandan Preliminary Round 13th May, 2019, Ugandan Preliminary Rounds 15th May, 2019, Tanzanian Preliminary Rounds 17th May, 2019 and Kenyan Preliminary Rounds 21st May, 2019. The Semi-Finals will be comprised of one team representing each participating Country. The semis will be held in Nairobi on 30th May, 2019 and the finals the next day on 31st May, 2019. The Centre welcomes all stakeholders in the Region to participate in this inaugural event. |
