Dr Kariuki Muigua: Lifetime Achievement Award 20 December 2021
The LIfetime Achievement Award. It is by no mean feat that this is received once in a lifetime and is reserved for those whose contribution seems bigger than life itself. It is no wonder that this award is reserved for the chosen few, those who have done all in their power and at their disposal in promoting ADR from all facets. Dr. Kariuki Muigua, PhD has been awarded the ADR Publication of the Year 2021 by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Kenya Branch) for his numerous Arbitration and ADR publications which have over the time become the official reference texts and practice guides across Africa and beyond. He is the Author of the 6 leading Arbitration, Mediation and Conflict Management Text Books in Kenya including “Settling Disputes Through Arbitration in Kenya”, “Resolving Conflicts through Mediation in Kenya” and “Alternative Dispute Resolution and Access to Justice in Kenya.” Dr. Kariuki Muigua is also the Editor in Chief of the leading peer-reviewed ADR and Conflict Management Journals in East Africa, namely, Alternative Dispute Resolution Journal (Official Journal of the CIArb Kenya) and the Journal of Conflict Management and Sustainable Development (JCMSD). Dr. Kariuki Muigua PhD has become a household name when it comes to ADR. Almost everyone in the ADR fraternity has had an encounter with him. He either taught you, inspired you to write Articles to the Journal, mentored you, assessed you, or at the very least, you have read one of his numerous books. As the CIArb Africa trustee, he advances the agenda of Africa to the main CIArb in the UK, ensuring that we too have a say on matters policy. As a past chairman of the Branch, he opened up the Institute to members of the public, to students within our Universities, where he even personally sponsored some to take up ADR courses. According to the current chairman, he even encouraged him to run for Branch Chairmanship. He has influenced research within ADR by ensuring that the CIArb Award-winning journal is published on time and circulated to our members and stakeholders free of charge. In addition to that, he has provided a platform to promote research and essay writing by establishing the Dr. Kariuki Muigua Essay Competition, popularly known as The DKM Awards, specifically for students. He has mentored most leading ADR practitioners and even the young and upcoming ones. For this and so much more, the CIArb Kenya Branch and all the Practitioners of ADR had the pleasure of presenting the LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD 2021 to Dr. Kariuki Muigua PhD earlier this month.
