AfAA Vice President Njeri Kariuki conferred with Senior Counsel

On 11th December 2025, the title of Senior Counsel was conferred upon African Arbitration Association Vice President,  Njeri Kariuki,  who hails from the Republic of Kenya where she has, since admission in 1988,  practised.  The title  was conferred upon 53 other Advocates  of the High  Court of Kenya  during  a ceremony  conducted by the President of the Republic, William S. Ruto, when our Vice-President was thus described: 

Admitted in 1988, Njeri Kariuki is an Advocate with a distinguished career 

focused on Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution. A Chartered 

Arbitrator and Accredited Mediator, she has achieved several notable firsts, 

including being the first female Chartered Arbitrator in Africa bar Nigeria, 

the first female GoK Nominee to the ICSID Panel of Arbitrators, and 

Kenya’s inaugural Representative to the ICC International Court of 

Arbitration. She is also a Tutor, Trainer and Assessor with the Chartered 

Institute of Arbitrators, delivering training in Kenya and internationally. 

“Njeri completed her UoN BA Studies at York University, Toronto, then 

studied Law at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, and holds a Diploma 

in International Arbitration from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators at 

Keble College, Oxford.”
